The Prairie Rain Harvester Recycled Rain Barrel features a threaded faucet ready to attach to your garden hose, soaker hose, drip irrigation line, or to fill your watering can!

Beware! Many rain barrels sold on the Internet use inferior faucets or methods for attaching the faucet to their rain barrel. Many designs simply call for drilling a hole in the barrel just big enough so that the faucet "threads the barrel" as it is screwed into the barrel. Over time, the faucet will wiggle loose from the barrel and other rain barrels will leak around the faucet. We use a special fitting with a large rubber gasket on the inside of of the barrel to hold the faucet firmly in place.

A round aluminum mesh screen covers the opening in the top of the Rain Barrel allowing rainwater in and keeping bugs and debris out. An 8" to 18" expandable "Flex-Elbow" downspout adapter is included with each Prairie Rain Harvester Recycled Rain Barrel. After trimming your downspout to the desired height, the "Flex-Elbow" slips onto the trimmed downspout and directs the rainwater into your Rain Barrel.

The Prairie Rain Harvester Recycled Rain Barrel is a "Closed Top Rain Barrel" so you won't have to worry about curious children, pets, or wildlife accidentally falling in.

Prairie Rain Harvester Recycled Rain Barrel also features two threaded "bung" openings. These openings are both two inches in diameter. One is threaded with standard pipe threads (NPS) and the other is wider "Buttress" threading. You can remove the white caps called "bungs" for easy access to clean out your Rain Barrel with a garden hose at the end of the season. You can also purchase a hand cranking barrel pump that would connect to the barrel through the bung opening. Also, since one of the openings is 2" standard pipe thread, you can plumb all sorts of things into your Rain Barrel using 2" pipe fittings available at your local hardware store.

The Prairie Rain Harvester Recycled Rain Barrel includes a 6 foot long overflow hose attached at the top side of the barrel to allow excess water to be routed away from the barrel when it is full.

Beware: other rain barrels sold on the Internet don't include an overflow hose. Instead, they provide an attachment point for you to hook up a garden hose to use as an overflow hose. Not only do you have to provide this garden hose (hidden cost), but using a garden hose as an overflow hose doesn't work very well. Garden hoses tend to kink under their own weight at the overflow attachment point on other rain barrels. Garden hose is also only 1/2" or 3/4" in diameter, which is too narrow to move overflow water out of the rain barrel during a moderate rain, which is why other rain barrels will overflow against your foundation in most rain events. The Prairie Rain Harvester Recycled Rain Barrel uses standard 1.25" sump pump hose for the overflow hose. If you want to direct your overflow water further away from your foundation, you can buy a 24 foot spool of sump pump hose at your local hardware store for around $6
